Middlesbrough have decided to terminate Michael Carrick ‘s contract, meaning he will leave the club as manager.

The former Manchester United midfielder signed a new three-year deal last summer. But his contract was terminated after Carrick failed to lead the team to the play-offs.

Carrick helped the Reds turn things around, but they were not consistent enough to reach the play-offs. Middlesbrough

Carrick led a revival at Middlesbrough against the odds but never quite found the consistency to challenge at the top end of the table. 

Middlesbrough won just one of their final six league games last term. And ended the season in 10th, albeit just four points away from a play-off position. 

It proved to be a streaky season, with the north-east club struggling over the winter months in particular. 

They suffered a difficult mid-season, but their style of play. And attacking play were praised on several occasions, especially when on-loan Liverpool midfielder Ben Doak was fit and performing well.

at the end of the season. Carrick is positive about his future at Middlesbrough. But in the end, he had to pack up and leave the team.

However, it is expected that many clubs will turn their attention to the 43-year-old coach and give him the opportunity to start a new project.
